From here the Lost Creek Ridge Trail climbs to a knoll, then drops to a rocky basin and descends to 51.2-acre Lake Byrne at 5,550 feet. Passing through meadows and sporadic forest, the trail passes little Hardtack Lake at 9 miles and reaches 9.9-acre Camp Lake at 11 miles where you will find good camping. Early season travel can be hazardous because of high-angle snow slopes and difficult route finding. This seldom maintained trail has sections of dense brush and faint tread as it ascends and descends steeply through a number of small basins.
#LOST CAVES MUIR WOODS SERIES#
The main trail continues past a series of camps with water before becoming hard to follow. At 0.7 miles a side trail drops 550 feet down to the lake where camp spots and a box toilet can be found among the trees. No stock animals are allowed beyond this point. The trail turns east and continues climbing up along the ridge, entering Glacier Peak Wilderness shortly before meadows and a saddle overlooking 12-acre Round Lake at 5,100 feet. (And we plan to stay longer this time, too!).Climb sweeping switchbacks through open woods for three miles to Bingley Gap at 4,425 feet. We will definitely be returning to Lost River Vacations, possibly even trying out other rentals that are offered. And when we weren’t relaxing, the aesthetic of the home made for some awesome opportunities for photo worthy memories that we will keep forever! The sound of the rain on the metal (or aluminum?) roof of the home was so peaceful to put us right to sleep in the incredibly cozy beds. As if the weekend couldn’t get any better, Mother Nature brought in a storm to end our last night. The pups enjoyed many hikes on the property and many naps on the porch. Not only was the home well equipped for us, but for the dogs also. The welcome kit with s’mores, granola, and pancake mix was so kind and made for such great treats. We enjoyed our first night out by the fire & had a perfect view of the stars (even saw a shooting star). A quiet, peaceful, super CLEAN, & comfortable place to unwind for the weekend with our dogs. Our weekend stay at the Black Oak was nothing short of amazing. Everything else is very very well stocked. Make sure to bring cooking oil and food that doesn’t require a microwave. Our dog is pretty particular and likes to walk a while before doing his business and we were a little surprised at how steep it around was around the house. Lastly, if you’re bringing a pup it’s worth noting there isn’t a lot of space to walk them that isn’t on an incline or scaling up the mountain side. The driveway to get in is a 15 degree incline/decline so highly recommend a SUV. Additionally the snow made it difficult and nerve wracking to leave. Make sure to bring ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper. You could really hear the wind howl which we weren’t used to and made it hard for us to sleep.

One of the things that made our trip difficult was unexpected snow - with a high of 70 when we arrived we were very surprised to see 3 inches come in overnight and into the morning. The view from the downstairs bedroom is spectacular and it was very cozy. We haven’t ready experienced a mountain trip like this before and this was a great place to try it out. My husband and I brought our dog for a weekend trip. While we didn’t meet the other guests, it was comforting to know there were others around since you are very much out in the mountains. I actually appreciated having the other property close by. Overall it was a nice space - just as described. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes an oven, dishwasher, knives, toaster, and an espresso machine. The first house (Acorn) is slightly visible from the path, and not at all visible from Black Oak. A cart with wheels is provided for easy transportation of your gear. There is an approximate 5 minute uphill walk from the parking lot to the house on a dirt path. A pull out couch provides room for two more guests. There is an expansive deck, Solo stove, Weber grill, 6 person picnic table, outdoor seating, and hot tub. The Black Oak has a first floor California king bedroom, and a second floor bedroom with a queen bed, as well as a private balcony that is great for coffee and reading. It has two bedrooms, a spacious kitchen, enormous deck, and a HOT TUB.

This special tiny house was custom built by Deaf-owned Big Woods Tiny Houses and is the second house to be built for Lost River Vacations.
